Digital Display Insider/Digital Display Insider Newsletter/Issue #5: Part 3 - The Four Cornerstones of Mobile Digital Billboard Success

Editors Note

In this edition, we’ll be providing valuable insights to help you navigate the mobile digital billboard (MDB) startup process.

Back in Issue #2, we introduced the four cornerstones required to grow and scale a profitable MDB business. Today, we’re continuing with the third cornerstone: the sales system.

Many startups make the mistake of buying a truck and then "winging it" when it comes to securing business. Unfortunately, this approach often leads to failure. Having an effective sales system in place can mean the difference between running a business that struggles and one that generates six- or even seven-figure revenues. It’s crucial to take this cornerstone seriously.

Let’s dive into this important topic so you can grow your business with intention and a solid plan.

The Third Cornerstone of Mobile Digital Billboard Success: Building a Sales Model

We are on part three of our series on the Four Cornerstones of Mobile Digital Billboard Success. This week, we’re diving into what I believe is one of the most critical components of your business: the sales model. If you’re serious about long-term success, you need a sales system that’s consistent, scalable, and predictable. Without one, it’s impossible to achieve sustained growth or get reliable results over time. Today, I’m going to walk you through the key steps to building a sales model that will set your business on a solid foundation.

Step 1: Establish Your Service Offerings

Before you even think about selling, you need to clearly define what it is you’re offering. This might sound basic, but many operators struggle with this step. Are you offering an exclusive model where clients rent your truck for a day or a week at a time, or are you pursuing a shared route model where multiple clients share advertising space? Are you targeting local businesses or national brands? Once you define your service offerings, you can better communicate their value to potential clients. The clearer your offerings, the easier it will be to sell them.

It’s also important to remember that your service offerings will evolve over time. Keep them flexible, but always have a clear, core package or set of packages that you’re confident in. The last thing you want is to fumble when a potential client asks, “What exactly do you offer?”

Step 2: Create a Customer Avatar

Next, you need to know who you’re selling to. This is where creating a customer avatar comes in. Your avatar is a detailed profile of your ideal client. What kind of business are they in? What challenges are they facing? What are their goals, and how can your services help them reach those goals?

For example, if you’re targeting local businesses, your customer avatar might be a small to medium-sized business owner who wants more local visibility but struggles with traditional advertising costs. They may be in industries like real estate, retail, or hospitality, where foot traffic and local awareness are critical. Creating a detailed customer avatar helps you tailor your sales approach and messaging, making your pitches more relevant and compelling.

Step 3: Build Your Dream 100 List

Once you’ve defined your service offerings and created your customer avatar, it’s time to make a Dream 100 list. This is a tried-and-true method that involves identifying the top 100 businesses or organizations that would be ideal clients for your mobile digital billboard services. These are the businesses that could transform your revenue stream if they became clients.

Your Dream 100 list is your roadmap—it gives you a clear direction of who to pursue and allows you to focus your efforts. Rather than trying to market to everyone, you can narrow your focus to those companies that are most likely to benefit from your services and have the budget to afford them. Whether it’s local businesses or national brands, your Dream 100 should be companies that align with your customer avatar.

Step 4: Set Up a CRM

With your Dream 100 list in hand, you need a system to track your sales efforts, and this is where a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool comes in. A good CRM allows you to keep track of all your interactions with potential clients, follow up consistently, and measure progress.

A CRM is essential for staying organized. It’s easy to lose track of conversations or forget to follow up with a potential client, especially when you’re juggling multiple prospects. With a CRM, you can set reminders, log important details from calls, and monitor the entire sales pipeline. This keeps you on track and ensures no opportunity falls through the cracks. If you want my personal recommendation for a CRM tool, check out the bonus video in our free Facebook group (link below).

Step 5: Invest in B2B Sales Training

Finally, no sales model is complete without continuous improvement. One of the best investments you can make is in ongoing B2B sales training. This is particularly important in the mobile digital billboard business because you’re often selling a service that many clients have never experienced before. They need to be educated on the benefits, and that takes skill.

A regular commitment to sales training will help you refine your skills, adapt to market changes, and consistently improve your close rate. In the bonus video, I’ll share my personal recommendation for B2B sales training, which has been invaluable to me (link below).

The Bottom Line: Systematize Your Sales Process

To build a scalable and profitable mobile digital billboard business, you need a structured, repeatable sales model. Start by clearly defining your service offerings, create a customer avatar, build your Dream 100 list, and track everything in a CRM. From there, continually improve your skills with regular B2B sales training.

By following these steps, you’ll develop a system that not only helps you stay organized but delivers predictable results over time. Sales is about consistency, and with the right system in place, you’ll be able to scale your business and reach new heights.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
[00:00:00] Hey insiders, welcome to our second bonus video here in the Facebook group on our series on how to build a successful mobile digital billboard business. And I'm so grateful for all of your support and everybody that's part of this community. And man, we're going to just keep growing it and thank you for being here.

Like I said we're in this series on the four cornerstones to build a successful mobile digital billboard business. And this week's issue that just came out has five steps in building a successful sales model, a cornerstone three of this process. And so this video, we're going to dive into each of those five steps just a little bit deeper.

If you have not already joined the newsletter, go to ledtrucks. com, scroll down towards the bottom of the page, and you can put your email address in there to get this weekly newsletter. So you don't miss a single week of this newsletter. And as part [00:01:00] of this Facebook group, you're going to get these in depth bonus videos each week.

It is it's to your advantage to join this group and be part of the newsletter and start to grow your business. Let's go on ahead and dive into this. The first step in setting up a sales system within your business is to establish your service offerings. Now, one thing I see that's very common is when someone buys a truck and they're getting their business going, They're just looking to make money wherever they can.

There's that pressure that you got this truck payment and the insurance and all these bills coming in that you need to start making money as fast as possible. And I get that. I've been there and it's something that never really goes away as the owner. The mistake that a lot of people fall into is just staying stuck in that where they're just, throwing anything against the wall to see where they can make a dollar and then they never really move into a system.

And my recommendation is before you even get your truck to set up your system here that you're going to follow and then stick with that. So you [00:02:00] can you can build consistency over time to get the results that you want. And so the first step to that is, last last week we covered the model.

And so once you decide what your model is going to be, whether you're going to be exclusive or more of a shared route, then within that you need to set up your service offerings. This is what you're going to promote. To your customers, and this is going to really be the foundation of everything. One of the great advantages to these mobile billboard trucks is you can make money a ton of different ways.

The problem is you can make a money a ton of different ways. And so it's easy to just be all over the place. And so what I recommend here is to pick 2, 3, maybe 4 of the most specific services you want to offer, whether it's if you're in the shared model, if it's a daily route, if you're going to target events if you're going to do some exclusive stuff, what type of events you're going to cover.

What your service area is going to be. Are you just going to be local? Are you going to be regional? Figure out all these things so you know exactly if you're going to put together, say, a media [00:03:00] kit. What are the two or three things you're going to have on that media kit that you can send out that you are consistently able to offer.

And so once you have that, then you can start building on the next steps. And that leads me to step number two, creating your custom avatar. So the avatar is your ideal customer. And part of the training groups that I've been part of, they encourage you to take that one step farther and to actually create a male and a female version of who your customer is.

Okay. Give them a name. Describe them. Are they a married mom that's a professional but also working from home? Is it a specific type of business? Who is the exact customer that you want to work with that you think will be a great fit for your business? And then list them out, all the attributes, and create just create this avatar.

Once you have that avatar created, then you can go to step three and build your Dream 100 list. And this is going to be your target list of the 100 companies that you want to do business with that you think Are a great fit that can benefit from what we're [00:04:00] offering here. And this is a dynamic list This isn't static and so As you're going through if you get someone who just says flat out i'm not interested And you need to remove them you take that person off then you put a new business in there in the spot there So you always have an active list of 100 people and what you'll find is over time You you're going to see that over time, those are going to be who your customers are and it'll be good to look back, six months, a year down the road and see that most of your current customers now are people that were on that list.

It's so easy to just, prospect over and just constantly be adding people in and grow your list to three, 400 people, 500 people. And all of a sudden, people are just sitting on that list, but never really getting reached out to, or they might, you might reach out to them once a year. And by keeping a very consistent, concise list of a hundred, no more than that, then you can be sure and it gives you enough people to prospect on a regular basis without oversaturating them. But it's going to keep you coming back to them on a regular basis. Once you have that [00:05:00] list of a hundred people, then you need to set up a CRM or a customer relationship management system.

And I've got a couple that we've used over the past couple of years. As I mentioned in the newsletter, I'm going to give you my personal recommendation. Who I use today is HubSpot. That is one of the leading CRM systems out there. It integrates with pretty much any software out there.

I've even got it with Gmail. If you're using Gmail as your, Email host you can set it up to where it's seeing almost every single email that's in your inbox. And so It just automatically pulls people in and then I can you can set up a whole host of different Parameters on it. And so I recommend HubSpot.

It is not the cheapest one out there In fact, it's probably on the more expensive side But worth every dollar and it's just been a great tool for us. And then moving into Step five once you have your dream 100 into your crm and you've got a consistent flow of reaching out to these contacts then you need to invest in some sales training [00:06:00] and I don't care how Seasoned of a salesperson you are or what you've done in the past you can always benefit by having sales training to just further You know just further your tools that you have and just make yourself better and so Again, the one that I have found in the recent year or so that has been really good for me is a guy called Jeremy Miner and his book, The New Model of Selling.

This is available on Amazon in both audio and in print here. But he's he's been very helpful for me and I've been doing sales for 20 years. And so I've been through the Sandler trainings and all the ones out there and this is taking a lot of those and bringing them into today. And making a more relevant today.

It's all based on human psychology and how people process decisions. And it just helps you, really craft what you're doing in a way that is based on human [00:07:00] behavior. And so that's what has really drawn me to it. And again, I highly recommend that. A lot of the stuff that I've mentioned, like the dream 100, the avatar, that all comes from a website community called ClickFunnels.

And if you are in the process of starting your business, you're going to need a And I highly recommend the ClickFunnels stuff reach out to me. I've got, I've spent well over a hundred thousand dollars just in training for online marketing through this system. And I can connect you with their website builder and all the different things.

So reach out to me privately. I can send you the links, but if you want to look at the books, so Russell Brunson is the founder of ClickFunnels and he's got some books here. Start with. com secrets. Go to expert and then traffic secrets and these will be, I tell you what if I, if these had existed when I was right out of high school, to me this book set right here is more valuable than most college degrees, in my [00:08:00] opinion.

I've seen more people become multimillionaires off just the funnel system and setting up their business under these these practices. And between the Jeremy Miner book and then for the website and marketing side of your business The Russell Brunson Brooks, I tell you it's you'll be so much further ahead than most small businesses in the country.

And so Just highly recommend this stuff Like I said, that's really the five steps within the sales system that you need to really pay attention to. And if you want to go deeper into any of these areas, I do offer consulting services and we can, I can help you go much deeper into this.

Like I said, I've invested multiple six figures into the training over the last 10 years of a lot of this stuff. And that's really what my consulting gets you is a lot of that stuff that I've learned. And there's a button you can click in the newsletter there or you can just go to jerryteeter.

com forward slash consulting. And set up a just an introductory consulting deal from there. We can figure out what it looks like for you and [00:09:00] set up a plan for you. So thank you for watching this bonus video. I hope this was helpful. If it was be sure to again, make sure you're registered for the newsletter and keep watching these each week.

We'll see you next week.
